- Everyone is talking about the big financial crisis, there's going to be no credit available. Why? Because a few (I've heard approximately 10%) borrowed money that they couldn't repay. So 10% of the people in this country have messed things up for all of us?
- Those living in San Diego, how many times have we voted on the seals at La Jolla Cove? No matter where you stand on the matter, I'm tired of seeing the issue on the ballot. I think this might be the first time in eight years that it hasn't been on the ballot. (I'm sure that's an exaggeration, anyone have the real numbers?) Yet a small group of people keep bringing it up and the issue goes back to the voters.
- A few years ago, 64% of the people who voted in California said that marriage should be between a man and a woman. A few months ago, the California Supreme Court (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there are 5 judges), said anyone can be married. FIVE people said how many million people were wrong?

Minority Rules?
So this question popped into my head today as I was driving home from work... does it seem that the minority rules our nation? Here are some examples:

I see your argument. Many things are being done in extremes. You find some exception that has an emotional, sellable cause and you exploit it for various reasons.
What happens in many cases is that you have a tipping poing. All of a sudden 5% turns into 20% and then 50%. As things marginally become acceptable, what was once the minority quickly becomes the priority and majority.
A very interesting, and true, point that you bring up. It was also brought up that people push the boundaries and as new boundaries are set, those will be pushed as well. Where does it stop?
I think of a little child wanting a piece of candy and the parent says no. The child cries, complains, thows a fit, etc. As a parent, I have often wondered if it would just be easier to give in and the child would go away. But rarely is that the case. You give the child one and they want another one. Similar situation here. Is it easier to just give in and let the minority have their way? But they will be back and want more.

I agree with you, Heather. It seems like any liberal minority can get just about anything they want these days, because we are afraid to be politically incorrect and step on someone else's toes. Never mind that the majority of our country doesn't practice homosexuality; a small group does, and heaven forbid we should prevent someone from doing something they want in this country.
Another great example of this to me is the way people use the concept of "separation of church and state" to enforce atheism as our state religion. We can't say the pledge of allegiance any more because it might possible offend one student out of a hundred. Yet I have to listen to profanity on every side, which offends me, because I am Christian and can't force my views on anyone else. Why do we have to honor atheism at the expense of those who believe in God? And why should we accept gay marriage when it's consequences will infringe on our rights to freedom of speech and religion?
